Climate of the Bahamas

The trade winds blow almost continuously here, creating a warm, agreeable climate that varies little throughout the year. September through May, when the temperature averages 70-75°F, is the most refreshing time to visit. The rest of the year is somewhat warmer, with temperatures between 80° and 85°. May is the rainy season.

The tropical climate does, indeed make for generally year-round good weather; in fact, they do say that suns shines the year round… well, not quite, but almost. The Bahamas does not experience extremes of temperatures. In Nassau, winter temperatures seldom fall much below 60F degrees and usually reach about 75F degrees in the day. In summer, temperatures usually fall to 78F degrees or less at night and seldom rise above 90F degrees during the day.

There are two seasons: summer which is from May through September and winter which is from October through April.

Average temperatures range from 84 deg. F during the summer and 75 deg. F in the winter. Though the summer days tend to get hot and muggy, the winters are somewhat more dry and cooler.

Relative humidity is fairly high averaging 65% yearly. The rainy season usually runs from May through October with most of the precipitation occurring during brief summer showers. The hurricane season spans from the end of June through the end of November when the islands may occasionally be interrupted by the threat of a tropical storm or hurricane. However, most of the better homes are built out of concrete block which is more then enough protection from the worst hurricanes.
