The Botanical Gardens, near Fort Charlotte, off Columbus Avenue in Nassau, is an 18-acre tropical garden with more than 600 species of flowering trees and shrubs. These are featured throughput the park along and include a small cactus garden, and two freshwater ponds with lilies, water plants, and ponds with tropical fish. The gardens have many walking trails that meander this way and that through the gardens; perfect for leisurely strolls.
A variety of events are held at the gardens each year, including the Annual Dog Show in March and the International Food Festival the third weekend in October, when the island's many cultural groups gather together to cook and sell dishes native to the islands, and to perform traditional songs and dances.
The Botanic Gardens are located just across the street from the Ardastra Gardens and Conservation Centre, home of Nassau's zoo.
Admission is $3 for adults; $1.50 for children under 12. Open Monday-Friday, 8-4; Saturday-Sunday, 9-4. 242-323-5975.
